In 2012, my grandmother passed away. She was a quilter and was the only one in the family that used a sewing machine. When she passed, I inherited her sewing machine. I was only 8 at the time, so didn’t know how to used the machine. The first time I used the machine was when I was in high school. I was 15 and in that year 2021, the pandemic was affecting schools and masking policy’s. I started sewing my own masks so I could reuse them. This was the beginning of my sewing journey.
I now use my sewing machine to upcycle clothing, make patches, and hats.

Growing up, I was always surrounded by art. My mom is an artist and has been a huge impact on how I live my life today. When I was a child, my mom taught studio art at Endicott College and as a single mom would often bring me with her to work. I liked going to work with her. I got to see art being made by lots of different artists and also often participated in what they were doing.
During my time in high school, I took various art classes, including ceramics. I loved working with clay and kept taking more classes so I could have access to the studio. In my senior year, I took an independent study class, in which I was able to research, design, and actually work on what it would be like to have a small business.
When I graduated in 2023, I decided I just wanted to start my life as a small business owner and keep on my journey in pottery. I came up with a 5-year plan with my mom, we called it college from home. The plan was, give the business 5 years to see if I can make a pottery business work.
I then found Wheelhouse Clay Center in Brattleboro, VT. Over the summer of 2023, I started going there and forming a relationship with the owners and other members. By the fall, I was a full time member and working for my spot. During the winter, I took an 8-week long class at Wheelhouse. I was still just a beginner at pottery so I was working on my skills and was practicing as often as I could.
In the beginning of 2024, I applied and was accepted into the Peterborough Farmers Market. I started setting up a table there on Wednesday afternoons, and was met with so much support from the community and other vendors. By the summer, I bought a set up for outside and was ready for the market season. I was selling as a guest vendor at the Keene Farmers market whenever they could fit me in, and was attending random craft fair that were hit or miss.
Over the course of pretty much non-stop markets and pottery making, I started to find outlets to create in other mediums. I started sewing and printmaking, and selling those things as well.
And now at the beginning of 2026, I am on year 3 of my 5-year plan and loving this journey and being able to make so much art and put it out into the world.
